When people start spouting to me about how they have nothing to hide and never will...they WANT the ease and convience of looking into other people's backyards...of someday having all medical and financial records electronic and connected...possibly into a chip embedded in their license...I start hearing wa-wa-wa-wa. These people truly are uninformed, uneducated and so much so that they don't even understand how important it is that they start to get informed and educated.

Look there are enough conspiracy movies out there. Robots taking over, the government taking over, terrorists from other countries taking over...you name it. You'd think that people would realize if it can't happen now, it will be possible soon. However you look at it we are putting the pieces together as we speak to make any of the 'fiction' scenarios possible yesterday.

Our freedom, which everyone will rely on consciously or not to keep them safe, may be the very thing that undoes us in the end.

If you haven't watched Steve Rambam's talk "privacy is dead", you should check it out. I saw him at Last Hope in July and it was riveting.

The key point is "the law of unintended use of data." It's not whether or not Google is evil or not, it's that once that data is there, someone will want to use it for something other than its original intent - like who you associate with etc. etc.

It seems the news and discussion about Google just keeps getting worse (for the consumer and user). Today on slashdot there is a story about the Google updater and Google Earth. It seems that Google is now forcing updates (especially for Mac users). You will find the discussion here (http://groups.google.com/group/google-earth-browser-plugin/browse_thread/thread/146882feca2788c3/de9af1aedf16f7de?#de9af1aedf16f7de).

I do not currently have Google Earth on my computer and it looks like it is going to stay that way.

I thought I was at least somewhat aware of privacy concerns and confidentiality as it pertains to the Internet, then I read this article and I was blown away. I wonder how many people have connected the dots with Google? If the points you made in this article just begin to scratch the surface I can't imagine how deep the hole goes.
